Instructions for Authors

Vascular publishes original articles, reviews, and leading articles on diseases of the non-cardiac vascular system. Short notes are also accepted.

MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts containing new material are accepted for consideration for publication with the provision that they are submitted solely to Vascular and that no part of the material has been submitted to any other publication. Authors should prepare one manuscript in Microsoft Word, arranging the material in the following order: title page, abstract, text, acknowledgment, references, figure legends, and tables. Review articles do not require an abstract. Articles should indicate that the work has not been previously presented and that all authors are conversant with the paper’s contents and approve of its submission. For the purposes of peer review, all papers submitted for publication are allocated to two members of the Advisory Editorial Board or to special experts in the field addressed in the article.

TITLE PAGE

The title page should include title of manuscript; type of manuscript (eg, original paper, case report, book review); name and initials of each author; department and institution to which the work is to be attributed; city and state; acknowledgment of grant support; name, address and telephone number of grant support; and name, address, fax and telephone numbers, and e-mail address of the corresponding author. An abbreviated title of no more than 40 characters should be included to be used as a running head. The title page should provide complete information (meeting title, city, state, country, and dates) if the paper was presented at a scientific meeting.

ABSTRACT AND KEY WORDS

The second page of the manuscript should provide an abstract of no more than 150 words that summarizes the following aspects of the study: purpose, basic methods, principal findings, and conclusions. The abstract should also include up to six keywords.

TEXT

The text should be arranged as introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and defined fully on first use. Tables should be referred to consecutively using arabic numbers.

            For drugs and their products, generic names are preferred; where proprietary terms are used, these should be accompanied by

the name and brief address of the manufacturer. Authors should use the International System of Units for all units of measure. Where the original reading was made in non-SI units, the value recorded should be reported with the SI equivalent given in parentheses.

            Methods must conform to the relevant national ethical criteria. The Journal reserves the right to reject an article if it feels adequate ethical or experimental standards have not been demonstrated.

            Methods of statistical analysis used must be explained clearly, with the test for each comparison cited. Significance (P) should be reported to two decimal places. The actual value of statistics such as c2 and t and number of degrees of freedom should be stated where relevant. Authors must distinguish clearly between standard deviation and standard error of the mean.

It is the author’s responsibility to obtain and present written permission to use materials previously published elsewhere.

References should be prepared according to the Decker House Style for references, which can be accessed at the following Web site: <www.bcdecker.com>. Examples:

It is preferred that authors do not use a reference manager when preparing references.

TABLES

Tables must be prepared in MS Word using the Table feature (NOTE: Tables cannot be used if they are in PowerPoint or Excel or if they are supplied as images). Tables and columns are all to have headings in place and provided with a title and numbered consecutively in the text with Arabic numerals. Avoid excessive use of horizontal lines. Tables should be provided at the end of the article, after the references and on separate page.
